Senior runner headed to states after 6th place sectionals finish
Senior Maria G. punched her ticket to the New York State Cross Country Championships Saturday with her lightning fast finish Saturday morning at sectionals.
Competing in the Section V Class D Championship at Letchworth State Park, Maria put up a time of 20:11.3, good for 6th place overall in Class D. She’ll travel to Queensbury High School in Glens Falls, Warren County, this Friday, Nov. 15 and compete in the state championships Saturday morning.
Also on our girls team, senior Savannah S. wrapped up an impressive, six-year cross country career with a 122nd place finish with a time 30:21. Senior Quinn F. took 128th with a time of 33:29.
On the boys’ side, the River Hawks put together a strong team performance, finishing 6th out of 22 teams in the competitive Class D field. Junior Wyatt K. led the way in 11th place with a time of 16:55.3, followed closely by sophomore Luigi M., who took 12th with a time of 16:56.1. Both earned sectional patches for their top performances.
Owen H. finished 49th with a time of 18:22, Mitchell ‘Money’ B. took 110th in 20:33 and Hunter P. crossed the line just behind in 111th with a time of 20:35. Ben K., competing his first sectional appearance, rounded out the squad with a solid 166th-place finish with a time of 26:05.
