Hawks battle back, but fall shorts in C1 volleyball final
What a whirlwind. Pretty sure our varsity volleyball squad navigated the entire range of conceivable human emotion Friday night in Caledonia as they battled toe-to-toe with Le Roy for the Section V Class C1 title.
Le Roy came out hot in Friday’s final, winning the first set 25-14 and then the second, 25-17, to take a commanding, 2-0 lead.
Apparently mere minutes from a second straight sectional title - the Oatkan Knights topped the River Hawks for the C1 title in 2024 - Avon battled back, taking the third set 25-22 and the fourth, 25-21, to set up a decisive, fifth set.
But the storybook comeback was not to be as Le Roy found its footing, won the set by a 15-10 mark and captured its second straight sectional title.
Incredibly proud of our girls for the way they battled not only this match, but throughout the entire season - you’ve done Avon proud!
