Your Avon River Hawks go on the road tomorrow as they look to continue their postseason run against undefeated Section VI champion Newfane.

With a record of 9-2 heading into Friday’s Far West Regionals matchup, the Hawks are averaging 34.7 points per game and boast a well-balanced offensive attack. They’ve scored 26 times on the ground and 26 times through the air and are about equal in yards gained via the pass, 2,034, and on the ground, 1,978. 

Key offensive contributors include senior quarterback Evan B., senior receiver/quarterback Kalman D. and sophomore running back James C.

On defense, the Hawks are giving up only 18.4 points per game. Senior linebacker Bobby B. leads the team in tackles this season with 124 while Kalman, a two-way player for Avon at the safety position, has 4 interceptions and a fumble recovery. 

Newfane, meanwhile, has racked up even more impressive numbers. The Panthers are averaging nearly 41 points per game while giving up 13.2 for an average margin of victory of nearly 28 points. 

Offensively, the Panthers are led by senior, do-it-all quarterback back Mac Capen, who’s amassed 2,580 yards - 1,640 rushing and 940 passing - through the regular season and scored 35 touchdowns. 

On defense, junior linebacker Jake Morello leads the Panthers in total tackles with 73 while junior Nasir Spencer has totaled 8 sacks and 4 TFLs at defensive end - likewise through the regular season.

The Hawks and Panthers face off tomorrow - Friday, Nov. 21 - at All High Stadium, 2885 Main St., Buffalo. Game time is 5 p.m. with the winner booking their spot in the state semifinals.
