Throughout the course of the school year, students will participate in parties that will take place in their classrooms. It is important that parents and or guardians, remember that food should not be brought in from home to be served to students. Only food prepared in certified kitchens should be served to students.
The Livingston County Department of Health issued a memorandum, to all schools providing recommendations for schools regarding the question of whether foods prepared at home can be brought in for distribution to the students. Joan Ellison, the Public Health Director, says that the answer is very clear, “only food prepared at an approved facility should be brought into school for distribution to students or the general public. Food prepared from home kitchens for “pot luck” suppers or classroom parties must be avoided. Parents, faculty, and other volunteers preparing foods at home, while with only the best intentions, may not heed all of the precautions necessary to insure a safe food supply."
Please be sure to follow these recommendations if you choose to provide a treat or snack for a party in your child's classroom.
Students enjoy classroom celebrations around the holidays.
