Avon elementary, middle and high school students all earned top finishes in the 2023 Digies Competition.
The Digies is an annual digital media festival and competition run by Genesee Valley BOCES’s School Library Service. The mission of The Digies is to strengthen the digital media continuum between pre-k through 12 schools, higher education and professional institutions.
The Digies recognizes student potential in an annual festival format and draws student entries from throughout the region and the Upstate New York area.
Emilee Williamson and Andrea Fetterly, library technology specialists with Genesee Valley BOCES, coordinate the Digies.
In the 2023 competition, Avon students came away with recognitions in the audio, interactive, graphic arts and video categories.

Jen Leonard’s first grade class took second place in the interactive, grades pre-kindergarden through three category for its digital non-fiction book on animals and animal habitats. Class members are Donnie A., Layla B., Amelia B., Norah C., Cash C., Arianna C., McKenzie C., Andrew D., Connor F., AJ H., Anthony J., Remington K., Desire M., Olivia M., Addie N., Westley P., Gracelyn P., Coltin R., Chloe V. and Zack W.
Megan K. and Tori H., seventh grade students at Avon Middle School, took first place in the audio, grades seven through nine category for their podcast, “What is Political Polarization?"
Aydan V., Elisa W., Panagiotis K., Nick F. and Ryan D., seventh grade students at Avon Middle School, took second place in the audio, grades seven through nine category for their podcast, “U.S. Citizenship: Rights and Responsibilities.”
Layla P. took first place in the graphic arts, pre-kindergarten through grade three category for “Self Portrait.”
Rayna M. took second place in the graphic arts, pre-kindergarten through grade three category for “Self Portrait.”
Wyatt V. and Ashley D. tied for third place in the graphic arts, pre-kindergarten through grade three category for their composite playground images.
Caden C., Evan V. and Keaton G.’s stop-motion video, “The Booner’s Solve,” took first place in the video, grades four through six category.
Gracie S., Gianna Z. and Emelia H.’s stop motion video, “Santa’s Delivery,” took second place in the video, grades four through six category.
Noah W., Ethan H. and Dylan J.’s stop motion video, “The Corn Escape,” took third place in the video, grades four through six category.
Freshman Aariana A.’s stop motion video, “How to Build a Fire (featuring Harry and Ron),” won first place in the video grades seven through nine category.
