An upcoming event at Avon Middle School aims to be a one stop shop for Livingston County families seeking information about local special education and disability resources that can help their children be successful.

The LivCo Special Needs Resource Fair will run from 1 to 4 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 20 at Avon Middle School, 191 Clinton St., Avon.

“Sometimes, our families with unique needs for their kids don’t know where to go and oftentimes might feel they’re the only ones going through it,” said Kerri Levine, Avon’s director of pupil personnel services. “Being able to have that opportunity to talk to others and have ready access to all these resources can be really helpful.”

This event is free to attend and open to the public. More than 40 different organizations and agencies will be one hand to share information and answer questions.

Organizations attending Saturday’s fair range from recreation programs, summer camps, transition support services, advocacy groups, respite care providers, state agencies, therapists and care coordinators, among others.

Levine, who organized the fair along with Avon parent Rebecca Stewart, stressed the fair is intended for all Livingston County families, not just those from Avon.

“It can be overwhelming for families grappling with a new diagnosis or trying to find services for their child - regardless of their zip code,” said Levine, “so we really wanted to make sure we opened this to as many families as possible.”
