We hosted Deputy Morganne Harrington of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 7 for a Family Engagement Night talk on how to keep kids safe in the age of smartphones.
Harrington went over key things that every parent and caregiver should know when it comes to keeping our kids safe online including online trends, popular apps, cyberbullying, and the short- and long-term consequences of inappropriate phone and internet usage.
Then, Avon Middle School Counselor Heather Grasso gave an overview of Family Link, a free phone app through Google that gives parents tools for supervising their children’s phone use and helps teach them safe and healthy phone use habits.
Suzanne Freeman, our high school library media specialist, wrapped things up with remarks on how the district is working to incorporate digital literacy and online safety instruction into curriculum.
