Q: What is your proudest achievement?
A: My senior year of swimming because I accomplished everything I wanted to. Our team won sectionals, I made the girls state standard in the 100-yard butterfly, won counties in the 200-yard individual medley, broke two pool records and received the superior swimmer of the year award from the Livingston County News.
Q: What will you miss most about school?
A: I will miss being able to see my friends everyday and our teachers.
Q: What’s the most important lesson you learned in high school?
A: I learned how to work hard and manage time between doing two sports at a time year round and maintaining good grades.
Q: What do you hope your life looks like in 10 years?
A: I hope I am teaching biology somewhere with a big house and a cat.
Q: Who inspires you to do your best?
A: My parents inspire me to be my best self. My dad inspires me to be the swimmer and hard worker that I am while my mom inspires me to always do the right thing, be kind to everyone, and to be positive.
Q: What’s your favorite place in Avon?
A: The Circle because it is where we go after a sectional win and it’s very pretty there.
Q: What’s your go-to Tom Wahl’s order?
A: A Hollywood Burger, onion rings, and a root beer.
Q: If you could tell your eighth grade self one thing, what would it be?
A: I would tell myself to not stress about what people think of me and to just be myself.
Q: What do you want people to know about what it’s like to be you, to be your age, at this moment in time?
A: That it’s fun competing in sports with your teammates and spending time with friends during school. As well as always being busy with something, either school or athletics.
Q: What would the title of your autobiography be?
A: “POV: Kaitlyn’s Life.”
Q: Who would play you in a movie about your life?
A: My younger sister, Maria.
Q: What’s your most-listened to song?
A: “Fear and Fridays,” by Zach Bryan. I like this song because it reminds me of fall when it came out.
Q: What scares you about the future?
A: Advances in AI.
Q: What gives you hope about the future?
A: Advances in science.
Q: Tell me about a time when you were stronger than you thought you could be.
A: Sectional finals this year in swimming, because I was tired from prelims two nights before and nervous. However, I still PRed in both the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley. Also when I won the 200 IM in counties because I was seeded lower, and it was a tough race against other boys.
Q: What trend or fad did you participate in that you will definitely regret in the future (or actively regret right now)?
A: Wearing shorts over our leggings in elementary school.
Q: Imagine it’s 2050 and you have teenage kids of your own. What advice would you give your 44(ish)-year-old self about being a good parent?
A: Always encourage them to try new things, push them to be their best and have expectations for them.
