Dear Avon Families,

On behalf of ACS, we wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving.  As we head into the break, this time of gathering, we wanted to send the latest information about COVID related cases.

We also take this opportunity to send a reminder about our facilities survey.  Please take a few moments to complete the survey if you have not already done so.  There is still time to submit your response here:

Avon Facilities Survey

COVID Updates- Here is the latest information on COVID cases.  As you can see our case numbers are on the rise.  Regarding contact tracing, based on the parameters issued in official guidance, conversation with LCDOH, input from our school physician, and feedback from families, we have been able to implement practices that greatly reduce the likelihood that contact tracing will identify a close contact based on school-related interactions.  We cannot guarantee that there will never be a close contact at school, but we are doing what we can during the academic day. With a highly contagious virus, none of the measures will be perfect.

Because we are trying to minimize close contacts through our practices, we will only communicate IF a close contact is identified.  Otherwise, when you read about a case, you can assume there were no additional close contacts unless specifically stated.

  • On 11/19/21 we were notified of a positive 4th grade student.

  • On 11/20/21 we were notified of a positive staff member.

  • On 11/21/21 we were notified of a positive 1st grade student.

  • On 11/21/21 we were notified of two positive staff members.

  • On 11/22/21 we were notified of a positive 5th grade student.

  • On 11/22/21 we were notified of a positive 8th grade student.

  • On 11/22/21 we were notified of a positive 5th grade student. Contact tracing was completed and  one additional school-related close contact was identified.

  • On 11/22/21, we were notified of a positive 3rd grade student.

  • On 11/23/21, we were notified of a positive staff member. Collective contact tracing is being done and any school-related close contacts will be notified.

  • Please continue to monitor symptoms closely and have students stay home when sick.

Diagnostic COVID Testing-

  • As a reminder, testing is available as a diagnostic/response test. If you or your child would like a rapid shallow nasal-swab diagnostic COVID test, please send an email to covid.testing@avoncsd.org. You will then receive a Google form to choose a time to be tested along with the consent form and intake form that will need to be completed prior to the test. If you have any questions please contact Michelle Burke at mburke@avoncsd.org.

  • Test results take approximately 15 minutes, and you will be notified in the event of a positive result only.

County COVID Information-

  • As of yesterday, there were 385 cases in Livingston County, 29 cases within the Avon community.

  • As of yesterday, there were 20 active cases within Avon Schools.

  • Note: the orange line graph was removed for this report below because regular data for schools was not sent to us consistently over the last week.  This was due to some staffing challenges at LCDOH.  We will add it back when we feel better about the data.

Vaccine ThoughtExchange

  • Thanks to those who participated in the most recent ThoughtExchange (TE) regarding the school’s role in assisting access to vaccinations for students ages 5-11.  We had 134 participants share 105 thoughts and completed more than 3,000 ratings.  This is excellent participation in the short time the exchange was posted.

  • The feedback showed that about 2 of every 3 respondents felt that the school does have a role in assisting access in these circumstances. Conversely, about 1 out of 3 participants felt the school does not have a role.

  • Please know that in a follow up conversation with the LCDOH, the department did not see a pressing need to engage additional schools in assisting vaccine clinics at this time.

  • Thank you for your participation.
