Dear Avon,
We write to pass along some information about campus activity over the last couple of days.
At approximately 10:45 AM Thursday morning, a hold in place was called at the MS/HS in response to a student medical incident outside (near the stadium) after physical education class. The nurses and safety team responded promptly and provided care. The student is okay, but was transported to the hospital by ambulance for further evaluation.
We also want to let you know that during the last two days, both Avon PD and Livingston County Sheriff's increased their presence by making additional campus sweeps. Upon learning of Uvalde, we immediately worked with the Avon Police Department to establish an additional presence for Wednesday and Thursday. Previously, the school, in partnership with both the Town and Village, established a School Resource Officer. This week, Avon PD was quick to provide additional support and we thank them for their partnership. Additionally, the Livingston County Sheriff's Department also communicated that they will be adding sweeps. We appreciate the additional support.
The school’s Trauma, Illness, and Grief team met yesterday and coordinated response efforts. They put additional supports in place for staff and students and will continue to make themselves available next week. If you or your student(s) have questions or wish to speak with someone, please contact the school counselor when we return on Tuesday. If you need assistance identifying the counselor, then please contact the Building Main Office on Tuesday morning or reach out to a mental health team member. The Mental Health website link is here.
Should you need assistance this weekend or outside of normal school hours, then please reach out to any of these community providers.
