Twenty current or recently graduated Avon students were recently recognized as Advanced Placement Scholars by College Board, the education non-profit that administers the AP program, which allows students to take courses in high school that also earn them college credit.
Students were recognized in three tiers: AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor and AP Scholar with Distinction.
AP Scholar awards are granted to students who received scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. AP Scholar with Honor awards are granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. AP Scholar with Distinction awards are granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
“The sheer number of students who received awards really speaks to the quality of our students, the rigor of our academic programs and the dedication of our teachers who show up every day to teach and inspire our students,” said High School Principal Ryan Wagner. “The Avon community certainly has a lot to be proud of.”
