DANSVILLE - The Avon Braves Cross Country team wrapped up the Genesee-Livingston (GRAA-LCAA) regular season with another strong performance at Brae Burn Golf Course where they were hosted by the Dansville Mustangs.

 Also participating in the meet was Livonia, Attica and Wayland-Cohocton.

For the Avon boys, sophomore Finn S. got his third victory of the season running a personal best of 18:09 beating highly regarded Livonia runners, Matthew Mulvaney and Christopher Coyle. Freshman Corey D. was the second fastest Brave on the day with a personal best as well, with a time of 20:47. Corey has improved his time by over three minutes. Rounding out the boys top five for Avon were Michael F., Aiden L. and Prestyn S.

The boys fell to league champions Livonia but locked up third place in the league with their victory over Attica and Wayland-Cohocton.

For the girls they were led by second place overall finisher, freshman Maria G., who ran a new personal best with a time of 21:14. Maria beat highly regarded Maggie Bacon of Dansville. Attica's Bailey Nixon was the girls overall winner. Kaitlyn G., Taylen B., Paige P. and Abby W. rounded out the top five finishers for Avon.

The girls fell to league champions Dansville in the meet but with their victories over Livonia, Attica and Wayland-Cohocton, locked up second place in the league.

Avon runners are next in action Friday when they’ll travel to Alexander for an invitational with the league all star meet and sectionals still to come.

"We went from being out of the picture to winning races and the only school to have both a boys and girls team in our leagues top three." said Head Coach Josh Williams. "From the top to bottom of our roster they have made this a very special season and earned the right to be proud of their progress - I sure am."
