Dear Avon Central School Students and Parents,
This letter is to inform you that the Avon Central School District, in partnership with School Resource Officers (SRO) from the Avon Police Department, have been conducting an investigation into an unused rifle cartridge that was found this morning in an Elementary School classroom (Specifically, a Hornady .17 Rifle cartridge used for small game).
After the cartridge was discovered, it was immediately reported to the SRO and Building Principal, Christie DeWald. Searches of the classroom and immediate vicinity were first conducted. This was followed by a thorough search of the building and external areas.
Based on the assessment of risk, it was determined classes would continue as regularly scheduled. Ms. DeWald will make personal contact with the families of students in the classroom.
The Avon Central School District and law enforcement agencies are taking this incident seriously and will continue to investigate. If anyone has information, please contact Avon Elementary School immediately at 585-226-2455, ext. 1110.
