Students in Mrs. Lorrie McLaughlin’s 8th grade physical sciences class wrapped up their unit on simple machines earlier this month and, as a culminating project, designed and constructed a device to transport a marble safely from a starting point to a plastic cup.
Working in teams, students incorporated the simple machines they’d learned about in class - such as inclined planes, levers and screws - into their designs, tested them, then made improvements to improve reliability.
We stopped by on testing day to see what McLaughlin’s students had come up with and were super impressed!
After seeing each of their classmates’ designs, students voted for their favorite.
