The Department of Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) impacts the social, emotional, physical, and educational components of every child's education in the Avon Central School District. PPS functions as an integral part of the total school program to facilitate teaching and learning for all students.

What We Do:

  • Coordinate tutorial services for students who legally are unable to attend school
  • Supervise the implementation of the Section 504 process
  • Coordinate the ACS District screening program for new students entering the school system
  • Ensure the implementation of the Part 200 Regulations of the Commissioner of Education for all students with disabilities
  • Assist the teacher to identify and understand student characteristics which influence learning styles and outcomes
  • Provide information needed by the school in planning suitable education for individuals and for groups of students
  • Give direct assistance to students in adjusting to learning situations, understanding themselves in relation to education, and in planning and preparing for adult living
  • Assist parents to understand and support the student's progress in school
  • Encourage and assist in the school's efforts to provide for full development of every student

Virtual Learning Opportunities for Families

The Mid-West Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Center supports the OSE Educational Partnership in its mission to empower educational organizations, families, and communities to improve equity, access, opportunities, and outcomes for all students with disabilities in New York State. The Mid-West FACE Center offers virtual training and assistance in a variety of topics including special education, transition, early childhood, culturally responsive-sustaining education, academic and behavioral supports, and family engagement. SPEED: Special Education, Engagement, and Development

This summer, a group of families came together to find ways to support and learn from each other. Our first meeting, held in October, allowed families to share topics and ideas that were of interest for this school year. 

Out of the meeting, came the acronym SPEED: special education, engagement and development.
