Hawks compete at Buffalo Bills High School Girls Flag Football Kickoff

Posted Date: 3/31/25 (4:59 PM)

Members of our varsity girls flag football team headed west yesterday for the annual High School Girls Flag Football Kickoff at the Buffalo Bills’ ADPRO Sports Training Center in Orchard Park!

Avon fielded a varsity flag football team for the first time last year as a pilot program, with athletes competing solely in scrimmages and without the possibility of a postseason.

This year however, Head Coach Justin Dueppengiesser has scheduled a 12-game regular season with the Hawks competing for the highest possible seed in the Section V Class C Tournament in May.

In Orchard Park Sunday, the Hawks heard from guest speaker Rob Currin, who was recently named the first head coach of the new Women’s Flag Football program at SUNY Geneseo, then faced off against teams from across the region.

The Hawks competed in three scrimmages on the day, tying Jamestown and falling to Pioneer and Canisteo-Greenwood.

The kickoff wrapped with a photo shoot, courtesy of the Bills’ public relations staff, and a surprise appearance by Billy Buffalo!

The Hawks open their 2025 season tomorrow - Tuesday, April 1 - at home against Le Roy. Game time is 6 p.m. on the turf.
