We were scrolling through the Buffalo Bills’ official photo album from their High School Girls Flag Football Kickoff this past weekend and were thrilled to stumble upon the byline of Avon’s own Mikaela Engstrom! 

Engstrom is a 2022 grad of Avon Central Schools and is currently in her junior year at Rochester Institute of Technology where she studies photography and serves as the supervisor of photography for RIT Athletics, covering the college’s Division I and Division III sports teams. 

“I just started freelancing with the Buffalo Bills this spring after meeting Ben Green, their team photographer, at one of the team’s events last year,” said Engstrom. 

In addition to her school and Bills responsibilities, Engstrom owns and operates her own photography business, Mikaela Engstrom Photography, and has recently been pouring a lot of time and energy into her ‘Her Playbook’ project. 

“The project gives different kinds of women in sports - coaches, athletes, creatives and managers - a platform to tell their stories of how they’ve gotten to where they are and what they want to accomplish going forward,” she said. 

Knowing her passion for women’s sports, Engstrom said Green reached out to her to see if she’d be interested in shooting the flag football kickoff Sunday at the Bills’ ADPRO Sports Training Center in Orchard Park. 

“Being able to use my knowledge of sports photography and studio photography for the flag football kickoff was very fulfilling as I want to continue down this route in the future,” Engstrom said. “I’ll be back later this year for more events with the Bills and hopefully, once I’m out of college, I can spend more time freelancing for more of their events and games.”
