District hosting 'Special Olympics' event in May

Posted Date: 4/02/25 (4:27 PM)

We’re thrilled to announce that Avon Central School will host a Special Olympics event next month!

While Special Olympics decided to move the regional qualifier event that’s previously called our campus home to the Buffalo area this year, we felt it was important to host a local event for our kindergarten-age 22 students in the Genesee Valley BOCES region.

Our special olympics event is set for Thursday, May 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature track and field events for preK-grade 2, middle and upper level athletes.

So far, 10 teams from across Livingston County have signed up to compete and we’re hoping to add even more in the coming weeks!

We are currently seeking donations to help fund our Special Olympics event and volunteers to assist with operations on the day.

To make a donation, complete the form and follow the instructions outlined in the ‘Sponsorship Letter’ document link below.

Instructions for how to register as a volunteer will be added to the ‘Special Olympics 2025’ webpage at the link below in the coming days. The deadline to register as a volunteer is May 9. This page will also be updated with information on events schedules, layout and parking, so make sure you check back for updates.
