Avon CSD

At the ES, the student day begins at 8:50 AM and ends at 3:15 PM and follows a four day rotation schedule.

• In the event of a snow or conference day, the rotation continues where it left off
• Other class schedules (remedial reading, remedial math lab, enrichment, speech, adaptive physical education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and counseling) that deal with individuals or small groups of children are set by the instructor; the instructor works closely with the classroom teachers to design schedules that are most beneficial to students and minimize the level of disruption to the classroom

The student lunch period is thirty minutes in length with an added five minutes if playground time is provided. Students are required to spend at least fifteen minutes eating their lunch, then they may go to the playground for the remaining twenty minutes. Student safety is on our mind at all times; especially during the winter months when the temperatures dip.  

• Every day we follow a protocol to determine whether or not playground time will be offered to students, and for what duration
• Each morning we check for the latest information regarding temperature and wind speed for Avon, NY
• We use this data collected from the internet, along with the National Weather Service Windchill Chart to render a decision as to whether or not playground will be offered to students

Depending on the weather factors, the playground will either be the usual twenty minutes long, fifteen minutes long, or canceled altogether. The temperature, wind chill, and the decision to have playground time will be announced each morning to the students on the public address system. As we have done in the past, other weather factors may prompt canceling the playground time (rain, wind, etc).
