Boys, girls track & field go 1-1 at seasons' lone home meets

Posted Date: 4/25/25 (3:00 PM)

Our boys and girls varsity track and field teams hosted their only home meet of the season yesterday, taking on Keshequa and Livonia on the turf and track.

Our girls went 1-1, falling to Keshequa but defeating Livonia to capture their first league win in two years.

"Incredible step forward for the girls track and field program. Both Livonia and Keshequa brought squads ready to compete with tremendous effort from everyone," said Head Coach Josh Williams. "We are putting in the work and coming together as a team. I couldn't be more proud and excited about the season looking forward."

Top performers for the Hawks were:

• Maria G., who took first in the 800 meters against both the Bulldogs and the Wildcats with a time of 2:34.8.

• Sophia P., who went 2-0 in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 12:12.2.

• Mollie G., who took first overall in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.6.

• Kayla C., who won the long jump over Livonia and Keshequa, with a distance of 15 feet, 6 inches.

• The 4x800-meter relay team of Megan K., Sophia P., Emma G. and Maria G. took first overall with a time of 11:19.

"We are a balanced team and the girls are willing to step up and take chances in events that are new,” said Williams. “Consistency and hard work in practice will take us to the next level."

Like our girls, our boys team went 1-1 on the day, falling to Livonia but beating Keshequa.

Top performers for the Hawks were:

• Finn S., who took first overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.1.

• Blayden B., who took first overall in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.6.

• David O., who took first in the 400-meter hurdles against the Bulldogs and Wildcats with a time of 1:03.2

• Jordan M., a two-time winner in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 9 inches.

• The 4x100-meter relay team of Blayden B., Elijah R., Brice B. and Jordan M., also won over Livonia and Keshequa, posting a time of 46.4 - the fastest by an Avon boys team in the past 6 years.

“I was truly impressed by our team last night,” said Head Coach Samantha Walker. “This was the best meet I’ve experienced in my three years of coaching with Avon in terms of everyone’s positivity, talented efforts and truly just having fun. It was very cool to see!”

Our Hawks are next in action Tuesday, April 29, when they’ll travel to Dansville to take on the Mustangs and the Raiders of Caledonia-Mumford.
