Boys track ties for LCAA D-II Title

Posted Date: 5/14/25 (4:58 PM)

The year is 1978. Cardinal Karol Wojtyła is elected pope, the Bee Gees finish the year with 3 songs in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and Avon’s varsity boys track and field team captures the LCAA Divisional title.

Fast forward 47 years to 2025 - a new pope sits the Throne of St. Peter and Kendrick Lamar has supplanted the Bees Gees to reign supreme atop the charts, but your Avon River Hawks are once again LCAA Divisional Champions!

Your Hawks captured a piece of the LCAA Division II title during last night’s tri-meet against Geneseo and Letchworth. The Hawks topped Letchworth and fell to Geneseo to finish with a 4-1 divisional record, the same as Letchworth and Geneseo, resulting in a three-way tie for the LCAA Division II Title.

“Letchworth and Geneseo are both incredible teams and we're so honored to share this with them,” said Head Coach Samantha Walker. “As only my second year as head coach for the boys team here in Avon, I am truly speechless. Just last year, the boys only won a single divisional meet. This shows all the hard work and dedication our boys have been putting in.”

Among the top Hawks performances last night were:

• Jordan M.: 1st in high jump and long jump against both teams, 2nd and 3rd in the 110-meter hurdles and 1st against both teams as part of the 4x100-meter relay.

• Finnegan S.: 1st and 2nd in 800-meter run, 1st and 2nd in the 1,600-meter run, 1st against Letchworth as part of the 4x800-meter relay and 2nd against Letchworth in the 400-meter run.

• Blayden B: 1st and 2nd in the 110-meter hurdles, 1st against both teams as part of the 4x100-meter relay, 2nd and 3rd in pole vault, 1st against Letchworth as part of 4x400-meter relay.

• Brice B.: 1st against both teams in triple jump, 1st against both teams as part of the 4x100-meter relay and 1st against Letchworth as part of 4x400-meter relay.

• Elijah R.: 2nd against both teams in 200-meter run, 3rd against both teams in 100-meter dash, 1st against both teams as part of the 4x100-meter relay and 1st against Letchworth in 4x800-meter relay.

• David O.: 1st and 2nd in 400-meter hurdles, 3rd against Letchworth in 400-meter run and 1st against Letchworth as part of 4x400-meter relay.

• Robert B.: 1st against Letchworth as part of 4x400-meter relay, 2nd and 3rd in long jump, 3rd against Geneseo in triple jump.

• Hunter R.: 1st and 2nd in shot put.

• Gabriel M.: 1st against Geneseo in discus (joining the 90+ club with a new career best by throw of 90 feet, 11 inches)

“The effort of our boys was truly written all over their faces in every event they competed in to pull off this historic achievement,” said Walker. “I really couldn’t be prouder.”
