Avon senior Emma D. was one of four winners of the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra’s annual Concerto Competition last November and, this past weekend, performed as a featured soloist in the orchestra’s Mother’s Day Concert.

Emma, only the second winning vocalist in the competition’s history, performed “Glitter and Be Gay,” a challenging aria from Leonard Bernstein’s opera, “Candide,” that demands not just vocal talent, but theatrical skill as well.
