We went to extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Michael Struzik for coming to work with our 5th/6th grade band members May 5 as they prepare for the New York State School Music Association’s Majors band festival next week!
Struzik, who retired from Brighton Central Schools in 2021 after a more than 30-year teaching career, is a freelance trombonist, NYSSMA adjudicator and frequent guest conductor of all-county, all-state and other honors ensembles across the state.
“We were so lucky to have worked with him and learned so much,” said 5th/6th Grade Band Director Meaghan Stambaugh. “He provided some valuable insights for our students and I’m confident that’s going to pay dividends next week during our festival performance.”
NYSSMA Majors is a band festival in which student ensembles perform for a group of certified NYSSMA adjudicators, who assess the performance and provide feedback.
Our students will head to Rush-Henrietta High School - 1799 Lehigh Station Rd., Henrietta - on Tuesday, May 20, for the festival and are slated to perform at 10:45 a.m. The festival is free and open to the public, so if you’re free we encourage parents and members of the community to attend!
Best of luck to our student musicians next week and a huge thank you to Mr. Struzik!
