We were happy to welcome Mr. Kevin Kurtz to Avon High School yesterday morning!
An award-winning children’s author, Kurtz has been working with Mrs. Lorrie McLaughlin’s high school science students on their book project.
Kurtz is a one-time marine biologist and frequently writes about animals, habitats and other science topics. Kurtz brought McLaughlin’s students through the process he uses when embarking on a new writing project and gave some tips to help make their finished books more digestible for a younger audience.
McLaughlin’s students previously chose a science-centric topic and are currently working on their books in Book Creator, a program that allows the user to lay out, write and illustrate books, with the help of Library Media Specialist Suzanne Freeman.
Once they finish their books, McLaughlin plans on having her students read them aloud for students down in our elementary school next month.
