Our varsity cross country squads opened their 2025 season with a strong showing at The Dash in the Dark in Oakfield-Alabama.

On the girls’ side, Maria G. led teammates Savannah S. and Sarah W. to a 34th-place finish out of 51 small schools in the Gold Race. Maria covered the two-mile course in 12:48 to pace the River Hawks. Sarah ran a 15:10 followed by Savannah with a 19:57.

An hour later, the boys’ squad of Luigi M., Owen H., and Wyatt K. turned in an impressive performance in the Gold Race, which featured 137 three-person teams. The group finished 38th overall and 14th among small schools with a combined time of 35:07.

In the Blue Race, Quinn F. represented Avon as an individual, crossing the finish line in 21:39.

The night also included a fun highlight: Avon’s own River Hawk mascot took part in the Mascot Run - rumor has it that Lilliana B, wore the feathers proudly.
