Freshmen float to victory at Homecoming Parade
We hope you had a blast at our Homecoming Parade, because we sure did!
This is the first time in quite awhile that we’ve gone the float route for homecoming and we really couldn’t be happier with how things turned out!
On Friday afternoon, high schoolers assembled in the parking lot to construct their floats, with each class picking a different movie as inspiration.
Seniors chose “Rio,” juniors settled on “Minions,” sophomores went with “Cars” while our freshmen drew on the Steven Spielberg classic, “Jaws.”
Students then re-assembled in the parking lot Friday evening and began making their way down Clinton Street before ending up at the judges’ reviewing stand in front of Avon Elementary.
Our panel of judges awarded scores between 1 and 5 in five distinct categories: Theme and creativity, school spirit, visual impact and decoration, class cheer and originality.
While our students put up 4 quality floats, it was our freshman class and their Jaws-inspired float that took top honors - turns out they DIDN’T need a bigger float!
Thank you to our judges, our class advisors and of course everyone who came out to cheer our students on along Clinton Street Friday night. It’s not much of a homecoming without alumni coming home, and Avon showed up in FORCE!
