Excellence recognized at Board of Education meeting

Posted Date: 10/07/25 (4:03 PM)

At last night’s Board of Education meeting, we were honored to play host to New York State School Board Association Ambassador Joe McNamara, who traveled to Avon to present High School Principal Ryan Wagner and Livingston County Veterans Services Director David Terry with NYSSBA’s Champions of Change banner in recognition of the pair’s work on behalf of area veterans.

Wagner and other Avon Central Schools staff have organized the district’s annual Veterans' Day 5K since 2022, with all proceeds going to the county’s Veteran Services department. The pair has also collaborated on Project Green Light, which raises awareness of veterans' issues.

Terry gave remarks on the valuable resources and programs that are made possible with funds raised by the 5K.

Also at last night’s meeting, Elementary School Principal Christie DeWald spoke in recognition of the Avon PTA and thanked them for the exceptional opportunities and programs they have provided for the Avon students.

Accepting the recognition was PTA President Erica Borsching, Treasurer Michelle Bacchetta, Secretary Jenn Lilly and Events Chairperson Ginger Burtch.
