6th graders mad about mummies

As part of their unit on ancient Egypt, sixth graders in Mr. Darren Leonard’s social studies ‘What I Need Now’ or WINN enrichment classes have been learning about the mummification process.
During classes, Leonard’s students volunteered for jobs that would have been required during the 70-day process, then staged their very own mummification demonstrations for their classmates!
In the accompanying photo of one of the demonstrations, Annalisa M. is reading the incantation of the opening of the mouth ceremony from the Book of the Dead. Maeve N. and Aubrie J., right, served as embalmers while Malcolm L. channeled his inner mummy on the table.
