Rebecca Honan, a member of our Board of Education, made a special delivery this morning for Avon’s own Mr. Rob Fries in recognition of his 300th career varsity basketball win!

Fries and his varsity squad celebrated win No. 300 before a home crowd earlier this week following the River Hawks’ 50-30 victory over visiting Hornell. 

“Rob’s been an integral part of our sports programs here in Avon for going on two decades and passing the 300 career wins mark is a testament to the winning culture and atmosphere he’s created,” said Athletic Director Andy Englert. “I think the biggest thing is that Rob’s always sought out challenging schedules with his basketball teams, so to reach 300 wins against the toughest competition Section V has to offer is a true achievement.” 

In addition to his 300 career wins, Fries’s basketball teams have won 5 sectional titles (2009, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2024) and a state championship (2009) while Fries himself has been named Section V Coach of the Year 5 times (2008, 2009, 2020, 2023, 2024, 2025). 

Fries and the River Hawks will look for win No. 301 tonight at home against Le Roy. Game time is 7 p.m.
