WATCH NOW: Competitive Cheerleading takes 2nd at sectionals
Big congrats to our varsity cheer squad, which took 2nd place at the Section V Class D1 Championships this weekend at Gates-Chili!
Our competitive cheerleaders scored a 72.2 and hit zero — meaning no deductions — a major accomplishment at this level of competition. It was a routine they’ve been perfecting since November and it showed on the mat as they missed out on a first place finish by just 2.9 points.
From day one, this team has poured its heart into the season and its sectionals performance was no exception. Coaches challenged the athletes to leave everything on the floor — and they did exactly that. Every stunt, jump and motion was performed with confidence, determination and pride.
“The growth throughout the season has been evident not only in the scores, but in the bond the team built along the way,” said Head Coach Lyndsay Herkimer. “The athletes pushed one another, trusted one another and fought for one another, creating something special. Their zero-deduction routine was a testament to months of hard work and commitment. The team’s seniors were a huge part of that success, providing leadership, experience and heart every step of the way.”
In addition to our squad’s top 2 finish, Head Coach Lyndsay Herkimer was named D1 Coach of the Year by her fellow Section V coaches.
One last shout out to our varsity cheerleaders - they gave it their all at sectionals and that’s all anyone could ask.
What a season! What a team!
