'Serve for a Cure' raises $1,300 to battle ovarian cancer
We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came out to support our varsity volleyball squad’s Serve for a Cure game against Pavilion last week.
Thanks to your generosity, our players raised $1,313, every cent of which will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Project, a non-profit that provides education on the symptoms and risk factors of ovarian cancer and all gynecologic cancers as well as supportive services to survivors and their families experiencing such diseases.
The Sept. 28 fundraiser was held in memory of Mallory Long.
A Spanish teacher in our high school, Long was diagnosed with cancer in December 2024 and, in the months that followed, “Long Strong” became a slogan of support throughout our district.
Long died from the disease in November 2025 at the age of 37. The phrase, Long Strong, remains as a reminder of her contributions to our district and the positive role she played in our students’ lives.
To everyone who bought a concession or a raffle ticket or who donated a basket prize or helped in any other way, thank you!
