WATCH NOW: Hawks win first ever 'Game Day Cheerleading' title

Don’t mind us - we’re just reliving our varsity cheer squad’s first ever Game Day Cheerleading sectional title!

Our game day squad scored a 92.1 to earn the sectional brick, comfortably ahead of second place finisher Red Jacket, which scored an 84.4.

The best part about this game day season? It’s not over yet!

After capturing the C2 title Saturday, the River Hawks faced off against C1 Champion Aquinas to determine who would earn the right to represent Section V at the New York State Game Day Cheerleading Championships next month.

Aquinas did well with their routine, scoring a 91.9, but Avon did one better, scoring a 92.0 to defeat Aquinas, avenge their 0.3-point loss to the Irish last year’s sectional championship

and secure their spot at states!

Join us is congratulating our girls on their sectional win and in wishing them well at states!

This year’s New York State Game Day Cheerleading Championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 8 at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. Class C routines are slated to begin at 9 a.m.
